Ultimate Business Protection solution includes two different
options:
• DAS
(Direct Attached Storage) solutions where backup devices are
connected directly to a server. DAS-based solutions offer very
cost-effective data protection for small multi-server
environments using stand-alone tape drives.
• LAN
solutions where storage devices are connected to the network
instead of individual servers. This solution is best for a
business or specific department that runs continuous business
processes and has multiple LAN-connected servers and
workstations.
Autoloaders
An autoloader
is a backup tape device that contains:
• A tape
drive
• Cartridge
slots
• A
mechanism for moving tapes between the slots and the drive
Backup
software controls an autoloader so you can create a backup
routine that spans multiple tapes and then let it run
automatically. Even if your backup fits on a single tape, you
can still benefit from an autoloader because:
• Human
intervention is one of the common causes of failed backup.
Autoloaders reduce this risk significantly.
• The same
backup software that manages your autoloader can verify your
backup so you know it worked.

Autoloaders can insert and remove tapes from a drive more
carefully than a person can, which reduces data loss due to
damaged tapes.
• The
autoloader organizes your tapes so it's easier to keep track of
them and find the one you need in the event of a data loss.
